Field Change Suggestions:
SS_PB 1.3 Discuss the issues involved with and the anaesthetic management of patients having surgery for tissue flaps. Including:
Limited access to the patient
  • IVs: Secure IVs properly and ensure adequate extension tubing for infusions.
  • Monitoring: Ensure monitoring includes temperature, arterial line, IDC, urine output (UO), BIS, and potentially CVL. All devices should be well-secured.
  • Pressure Area Care: Take precautions to prevent pressure sores and ensure proper padding, especially over bony prominences.
  • Warming: Use warm lines and an underbody Bair Hugger to maintain temperature.
  • ETT Security: Secure the endotracheal tube (ETT) well, as limited access may complicate airway management or rescue.
