Commit #312099
SS_PB 1.1 Describe the physiological principles relevant to optimising blood flow to tissue flaps, including:
∙ Autonomic nervous system control of systemic vascular
∙ Autonomic nervous system control of systemic vascular
Back
Commit #312099The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) plays a dominant role in vascular tone regulation via α1-adrenoceptor-mediated vasoconstriction and β2-adrenoceptor-mediated vasodilation.
Parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) has minimal direct control over systemic vasculature but can influence heart rate and indirectly impact perfusion.
Baroreceptor reflexes help maintain systemic blood pressure and perfusion.
Surgical and anaesthetic implications: SNS activation (stress, hypothermia, pain) leads to vasoconstriction and reduced flap perfusion. Anaesthetic techniques, such as regional anaesthesia, can block SNS activity and improve blood flow.
