Chest wall innervation
  • Segmental innervation from spinal nerves
  • Emerge through intervertebral foramina, then make dorsal and ventral ramus
  • Dorsal (posterior) rami supply muscles and skin on back
  • Anterior rami intercostal nerves
  • Course near internal intercostal muscles
  • Innervation of anterolateral thoracic wall intercostal nerves 2-6 (lateral cutaneous branches arising in mid axillary line)
  • Phrenic nerve diaphragmatic parietal pleura, mediastinal pleura
