Explain the importance of assessing the lumbosacral spine and scoliosis in routine physical examinations.
  1. Early detection of congenital anomalies (e.g. spina bifida, tethered cord syndrome, other neural tube defects) via inspection for sacral dimple or tuft of hair.
  2. Early detection of scoliosis and other associated conditions (e.g. neuromuscular, Marfan, other connective tissue disorders)
  3. Prevent long-term complications (e.g. chronic pain, resp issues, reduced QoL)
  4. Timely intervention and reducing progression
