Patient preparation
  • Preop showering (e.g. chlorhexidine)
  • Screen for S. aureus and MRSA carriers and consider decolonization
  • Contral blood glucose
Anaphylactic prophyaxis
  • Depends on type of procedure, usually administered within 60 min before incision, and d/c before 24 hrs postop
  • Usually cefazolin 1-2 g IV +/- metronidazole 500 mg IV depending on procedure
Skin preparation (chlorhexidine-alcohol)
Hair removal (use clippers)
