Impact: failure to thrive, developmental delay, recurrent infx, severe immunodeficiency

Prevention: screening during first prenatal visit and in T3 if risk high.

Treatment: if HIV+ --> combo ART (2x nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and third agent e.g. protease inhibitor or integrase inhibitor) and viral load monitoring. C-section if viral load > 1000 copies/ mL.
