Neonatal
- Preterm
- Low birth weight
- GI tract pathology
- Neutropenia
- Decreased baseline serum IgG conc (dysgammaglobinemia)
- Delay in time needed to regain birth weight
- Vascular catheterization
- Mechanical ventilation (CPAP or endotracheal)
- Lack of enteral feeding/ hyperalimentation
- Medications, e.g. H2 antagonists, PPIs, steroids, cephaosporins
- Prolonged hospital stay (i.e. exposure to environmental pathogens)
