DHCP, running on a DHCP server, allows for the automatic configuration of IP addresses, subnet masks and more on a network. It uses udp/67 and udp/68. DHCP keeps a pool of IP addresses that are leased to new devices. IP addresses can also be reserved by assigning them to a specifc MAC address on the DHCP server.
