Commit #18675
A 65 year old man is day 6 post Hartmann operation for perforated diverticulitis. He is a morbidly obese smoker. He has had a prolonged ileus and the stomal mucosa has been looking increasingly dusky. On this mornings round you noted that the stoma is now completely dead. You tell him and his duaghter who is accompanying him that he will need to return to theatre to have the stoma refashioned. His daughter becomes very upset and angry at you and says that she is not happy with the care her father is receiving here and she thinks the surgeons are incompetent which is why there is a complication.
