You are a resident in a mental health unit. A newly admitted patient is a national celebrity. They have been admitted after attempted suicide, and have been diagnosed with major depression and drug dependence. The media are very interested in the case and multiple attempts have been made to access medical information related to this patient. The hospital has had meetings and education sessions for all staff regarding the protocols in place for media interaction.
A couple of weeks into the patient's admission, a feature article appears in a local paper which discloses medical details that would only be available to hospital staff. You are aware that the editor for the paper is the cousin of one of your co-residents in the mental health unit. Following the article, many staff are noted to be gossiping about the patient's case. The patient's mental health deteriorates as a result of this. The hospital executive calls a meeting of all health staff involved in this patient's case to discuss things.
How would you proceed in the lead-up to this meeting as well as in the meeting itself?
