Commit #18619
You are a senior registrar, new to a surgical unit in a particular hospital. Your junior registrar and resident have been in this hospital and unit in the past and are well-known to your consultants and ward colleagues.
While you have been doing your best in a busy clinical environment, you have the impression that you are occasionally undermined by your colleagues (e.g. during a recent consultant ward round, your residents provided the results of an investigation immediately after you said you did not know, while on the morning registrar round they had said they did not know the result when you had asked specifically). The nursing staff on the ward also seem to less helpful for you than for your colleagues, with the exception of the nurse unit manager who has been supportive since you have started.
During your mid-term assessment, your supervisor of training states that while the consultants have been impressed by your operating ability, there have been concerns regarding your management of the ward patients. As such, they have given you a borderline score.
How would you respond?
